Oats, a super food! Oats are a slow release carbohydrate, this - TopicsExpress

Oats, a super food! Oats are a slow release carbohydrate, this means that that carbs are absorbed slowly and keep your blood sugar steady, they keep hunger pangs away and help prevent chronic diseases, such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. By contrast, carbohydrates that are absorbed quickly such as processed foods, white bread, hamburger buns, biscuits, cakes, sweets, sugary drinks and most breakfast cereals are absorbed rapidly, causing sharp spikes and dips in your blood sugar. This causes you to be hungry again a short time later and may set you up for health problems. Feel better and stay healthier with slow-release carbohydrates. A prefect slow release carbohydrate to start your day with is oats. Here are a few serving suggestions for you if you find facing a bowl of oats too much in the morning! 1. Porridge: Add fruit, seeds or nuts to your porridge to change it up each day. 2. Homemade Flapjacks: Mix oats, with banana and a tablespoon of peanut butter or honey. Mix together and bake. Limit honey and peanut butter and ensure you use produce that are as natural as possible. My favourite is oats, a banana and a tablespoon of peanut butter. 3. Smoothie: Mix oats, fruit, milk or water, seeds, nuts, nut butter. Ensure you use good quality natural produce. Also ensure that you use a good quantity of oats, the same amount you would use in a serving of porridge. If you have any other serving suggest to share please add them below.
