Obama Closes Federal Highway System (BPress) Officials announced the organized closer of the Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways (commonly known as the Interstate Highway System, or simply the Interstate). Effective Friday October 11, 2013 the Federal Interstate system will be closed due to the federal government shutdown by a radical faction of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives. Interstate systems will begin with north-south roads closures at noon Friday October 11, 2013 and east-west roads to close on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at noon. The noon time closure will correspond with the time zone for the area the Interstate is located. President Obama is confident the closures will cause Americans extreme difficulties as well as an immediate economic burden that will cause the Republican radicals to pass a fully funded spending bill including full funding of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
