Obama has repeatedly attempted to grab legislative power through bypassing Congress and passing laws with executive orders. Fox News reports that Republicans have stated the purpose of the lawsuit is a constitutional check to help reign in Obama’s lawlessness and remind him he cannot get away with superseding Congress and ignoring the law of the land. National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Greg Walden weighed in on the importance of this course of action in defending the Constitution. “President Obama swore an oath to uphold the Constitution—an oath he has not fully lived up to. Today, the House took an important step to defend the Constitution and hold the president accountable.” Of course, not everyone is celebrating the lawsuit as a victory. White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer sent out an email stating, “The House of Representatives just took a vote — and it wasn’t to raise the minimum wage, put in place equal pay, create jobs, or reform our broken immigration system. Instead, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives just voted to sue the President for using his executive authority. This lawsuit will waste valuable time and potentially millions of taxpayer dollars.” Liberal rhetoric slamming Republicans for the lawsuit, claiming it’s a waste of taxpayer dollars, doesn’t seem to be phasing Rep. Doug Lamborn from Colorado who said, “We will do whatever it takes to hold him and future occupants of the Oval Office accountable.” This is awesome. House Republicans are letting Obama know that he’s not invincible and that he’s accountable to the law, just like the rest of the American public. President Obama has earned this lawsuit by consistently attempting to go around Congress in the law making process, which silences the voice of the people. This is a violation of the Constitution, which is grounds for impeachment, and whether John Boehner wants to admit it or not, that is the next logical step on the path to restoring liberty and power to the citizens of the United States.
