ObamaCare Fun Fact #21 Going back to when then Senator Obama was running against Hillary Clinton for the Democratic Party nomination, Obama stood in opposition of the “Individual Mandate” which was of course, part of the HillaryCare plan. Senator Obama stated time and again that the individual mandate would “force” everyone to buy healthcare insurance and also stated throughout their campaigns that if you chose Hillary’s plan you would be forced by the government to purchase healthcare insurance while with his plan you got to keep your freedom. It was not until Obama was elected and his team got started on the creation of his Universal Healthcare plan that President Obama have a change in heart over the importance of the Individual Mandate but sadly this change in heart was not driven by what he believed to be for the better good of the American people, as he claims today. Obama’s change in heart came at the insistence of Senate democrats who, at the advice of health policy experts, believed his new healthcare bill would never survive filibuster without the inclusion of the Individual Mandate. Now we have our beloved “Individual Mandate, a key element of President Obama’s legacy HealthCare legislation, something so important he has been willing to sacrifice job creation, the economy and the success of the middle class over, so important that he allowed a partial shutdown of the federal government to protect its delay and might just as likely have allowed the country to go into default to protect it. And to think, just 5 short years ago or president believed that the inclusion of the Individual Mandate was an attack against American Freedom!
