Obedience scripture reading: Genesis 12:1–5 key verse: Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. Two children play in a yard. One mother cries, “Johnny, it’s time to come home.” Johnny hurriedly tells his friend good–bye and runs home. His companion Bill continues to play. Why did Johnny respond but not Bill? Because Johnny was related to the one speaking, while Bill was not. Similarly your obedience to God’s leadership is a validation that God is your Father and you are His child. When He requires your obedience to His conviction, guidance, and reproof, your compliance is evidence of your relationship with Him. You are still His if you do not obey, but God desires obedient children who are submissive to His will. Also Johnny responded to his mother’s command because of his love for her. When you obey the Father, you likewise give evidence of your devotion to Him. Loving God involves your consistent adherence to His Word and means your glad, prompt obedience. Knowing that God seeks your obedience only for your benefit is the grounds for your loving allegiance. Even in correction, God’s motivation is His love for you. If He is speaking to you about a specific action, let your obedience demonstrate your love as His child. I love You, Lord, and I want to be an obedient child. I submit to Your will. Come, and take complete control.
