Obesity could bankrupt NHS if left unchecked: theguardian/society/2014/sep/17/obesity-bankrupt-nhs-warning Rising healthcare costs in the UK and around the world is an indication to me that some major changes in the way dietary guidelines and recommendations for health need to happen sooner than later. They note in this story that there are huge increases in type 2 diabetes and obesity and that preventative measures need to take place. Well duh, of course thats what needs to happen. But its all talk and no teeth until something meaningful happens--not just more platitudes that youre committed to change and pouring more money into programs that are destined to fail before they even begin. Ive been blogging about the need for a more serious consideration of making low-carb diets a part of the solution since this blog post from way back in June 2005: livinlavidalowcarb/blog/rising-obesity-costs-warrant-a-serious-look-at-the-low-carb-answer/169 May 2006: livinlavidalowcarb/blog/preventable-diabetes-epidemic-amounts-to-132-billion-more-in-medical-costs/909 Again in August 2006: livinlavidalowcarb/blog/doubling-obesity-has-tripled-medicare-costs/1155 If the government will stop being controlled and manipulated by well-funded lobbyists representing the grain, sugar, and pharmaceutical industries, then perhaps this problem can become resolved. But nothing is going to change until a brave politician stands up and says enough is enough. Whos gonna have the guts to do that?
