Obi Wan Kenobi: Only a Sith deals in absolutes. Obi Wan absolutely believes this. How can a Jedi, one of the most devout in the order, hold to such a paradox? The answer is quite insidious. The Jedi Order was forged by a Sith around the time of the end of the Sith Wars. To avoid the fate the Sith Empire encountered he disguised the Sith teachings and set up a process for slowly revealing the true nature of the order to its most mature and worthy students. For a millennia this order secretly guarded the Sith Order from all threats, external and internal. Enter Obi Wan Kenobi. Obi Wan Kenobi was a veritable Boy Scout from the beginning. In his haste to save a close friend he demonstrated a compassion unfitting for a Sith Master, and he was temporarily removed from the order. To the chagrin of the Council his talent could not be ignored, the only option would be to readmit him and hand him to the most reckless and effective trainer in the Order, Qui-Gon Jin. For a time this appeared successful, Qui-Gons tutelage guided Obi Wan towards the Dark Side, and some contend to this day that his own death was supposed to serve as a final push towards despair. Others argue that Qui-Gon proved his Sith nature by relentlessly pursuing young Anakin Skywalker, who embodied the greatest potential for power he had ever encountered. Denying his own apprentice in an attempt to claim Skywalkers power he eventually undid himself. These allegations further suggest that Qui-Gon had grown tired of Obi Wans light nature and suggested that he face the trials in hopes that he would fail and, according to the Sith traditions, die. The Council opposed this course of action because they feared his success, which would give him a seat on the Council itself and reveal the Jedi secrets so carefully kept from him. With Qui-Gon dead and Obi Wan inadvertently thrust onto the Galactic political stage, the Council had little option but to accept Obi Wan as a full Knight. Ultimately they managed to keep their secrets from him, playing off of his inherent loyalty. Meanwhile, on the other side of Coruscant, Darth Sidious was completely fooled by the facade of the Jedi Order. Without knowledge of each others true goals the Order and Sidious played both Obi Wan and Anakin against each other, to each others eventual demise. Anakin, turned to the Dark Side by Sidious destroyed the Sith Order without ever knowing the truth about them. In turn Obi Wan trained Anakins son, Luke, as the Jedi Obi Wan always was. Even Yoda, though he tried, could not undo Obi Wans guidance and Luke went on to destroy the Sith line of Bane and start a true Jedi Order.
