Obituary: James “Jimmy” G. Tapia of Phoenix, formerly of Globe, died peacefully at his home at the age of 80 on December 22, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Jimmy was born to Jesus and Paula Tapia on February 6, 1934, in Globe. The Jesus and Paula Tapia family of Globe is among those families whose sons served their country honorably in World War II: Jesus, Jr.; Manuel; Willie; and Albert, who was killed in action while serving abroad with the United States Marine Corp. Their younger brother, James, or “Jimmy”, attended the Globe Public Schools, and graduated from Globe High School in 1952. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country until 1956. He returned to Globe and met and courted and married the lovely Rita Paulette Ramos, daughter of Paul and Edna Ramos of Globe, in 1968. Rita graduated from Globe High School and attended nursing school and began her nursing career in Phoenix. Jimmy Tapia was the owner & manager of the Jim Tapia Painting Company in Phoenix. He was known for his community service & support for the Boy Scouts of America; the Al-Villa Little League program; the Pop Warner football program, and many other organizations in Phoenix. James G. “Jimmy” Tapia is preceded in death by his wife, Rita Ramos Tapia, who died in Phoenix in June, 2014. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diana & Thomas Kauffman; his son and daughter-in-law, James Tapia, Jr., and his spouse, Liz; his daughter & son-in-law, Mona Tapia Williford & her spouse, Todd; and 10 grandchildren. The Rosary and Mass for James G. Tapia will be held on January 7th, 2015, Wednesday, at St. Louis the King Catholic Church, 4331 West Maryland in Glendale, Arizona at 5:30pm and at 6:00pm. Reception will follow the Mass. Burial will be held on January 8th, 2015, Thursday morning at 11:00am at the National Cemetery of Arizona, located at 23029 North Cave Creek Road in Phoenix.
