Obituary Robert Joseph Franz entered eternity Saturday, December 21, 2014 at the age of 88. He was born on April 1, 1926 in New Orleans, LA to Fredrick and Alice (Jones) Franz. He attended Holy Cross High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve his country during WWII. He served as an Aircraft Electrician from 1943-1946 and received the Victory Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon. He retired from Exxon in 1984 after a 37 year career as a Production Superintendent. He was long time resident of Lockport, LA. An avid golfer, he was a member of Sugarland Country Club. He was also a member of the Holy Savoir Athletic Club. He also coached numerous youth football and baseball teams. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Richard Franz of Opelousas; his children Cyndy Franz Sanchez (Jerry) of Lafayette, LA, Daniel Patrick Franz (Caroline) of Houma, LA, and Robert J Franz, Jr. of Castroville, TX. His legacy includes 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his 3 siblings, Audrey Harris of Metairie, Lotus Brumfield of New Orleans, and Fredrick Franz Jr. of Gretna. Bob never met a stranger and was loved by all he encountered. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December, 27 at Samart Funeral Home in Raceland. The family will greet friends from 9:00 to 10:30am followed by a military memorial and prayer service. Afterwards, the burial will be at Holy Savoir Mausoleum in Lockport, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Coach Bob’s honor may be made to Lafourche Parish Recreation District 1, P.O. Box 385, Lockport, LA 70374. The family would like to thank the staff at Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home, Jennings American Legion Hospital, and Heart of Hospice in Jennings, LA for the care and love they provided to Mr. Franz.
