Objection number 181 submitted. Copy below FYI. I strongly object to the Dunton Garden Suburb (DGS) proposal and request that the scheme is abandoned forthwith before any further waste of tax payers money takes place. I am concerned that there has been insufficient communication regarding the proposal. I only became aware of the proposal through social media and I find it disappointing that Basildon Council have failed to notify residents directly. The DGS consultation document refers to the proposed site being close to schools in Laindon and Basildon and appears to imply that the existing primary and secondary schools will be able to accommodate the additional demand. The local primary schools are already operating at capacity and in many cases are regularly oversubscribed. As a resident of Langdon Hills, I am fully aware that the existing secondary school provisions for our community are inadequate and the proposed DGS would clearly exacerbate this situation. Even if the proposed development was to include new schools, it is clear that 4000 to 6000 new homes would not be built in one phase and no doubt the Laindon and Basildon schools would have to accommodate the additional demand in the interim period. The existing local healthcare services are referenced in the consultation document, implying that these will be able to accommodate the additional demand created by the new homes. The existing healthcare services are already under strain so to assume that they can cater for approximately 20,000 additional residents is absurd. The idea of a new train station is utter nonsense. We need more trains to increase capacity, not more stations. Laindon station is perfectly adequate, and with three platforms actually better than most. Further there is insufficient road infrastructure. The projected organic growth for Basildon in no way requires an expansion of this size. This is part of an opaque expansionist agenda being pursued by members of the Council - who seem to have already forgotten that they are servants of the electorate, as Mr Tony Ball was reminded. The proposal would conveniently solve Brentwoods problems in terms of growth and housing quotas, whilst residents of the proposed development may pay council tax to Brentwood, the reality is that they would be using Basildons infrastructure. The proposed site is so far from Brentwood that the majority of people would not even realise it was part of Brentwood and therefore the development would be an expansion of Basildon de facto. Why is Basildon Council being hoodwinked into supporting this proposal when it is clearly not in the best interests of Basildon or its residents?
