Obnoxiously long status alert: I had an appointment in Brooklyn - TopicsExpress

Obnoxiously long status alert: I had an appointment in Brooklyn this morning, over an hour away from home. I was grumpy prior to leaving, the entire commute on jammed-packed & stuffy subways and was angry by the time I finally reached my stop. While exiting, a mass of busy bodies plowed over one another, one being myself & one being a blind man. I noticed his cane was nearly broken and he couldnt figure out where to go due to being pushed. Directing him to the stairs, we exited together & he asked to point him in the direction of his destination. It was 8 blocks away and traffic was heavy. I walked him there and in turn had the most beautiful conversation/encounter with a stranger that Ive ever had. He was the most vibrant, energetic, grateful soul & made me laugh the entire way. I noticed people giving us dirty looks/steering clear as we passed with disgusted faces. He said to me, You know its funny, I can tell people are judging you. People act like because I cant see, I cant hear and feel them grossed out by me. Im just a normal man who goes slower and is missing a few damn teeth! After dropping him off he gave me his card & begged that I contact him, telling me over and over that Im an earth angel. Youre the first person to acknowledge me in Im not sure how long, and you saved me cab fare. As always, I like sharing these stories because Im passionate about the fact that not all strangers are dangerous creatures. Someone always has it worse than us and taking time to talk with a random person on the street (even in NYC) can quite literally impact the rest of your life. Spread the love, yall.
