Observation of the day: There is a hell of a lot of crap posted on here, usually be me; but have you noticed how many photos and posts bear gist of the message: It doesnt matter what other people think of you, or Only your view of yourself really counts or Dont try to make people like you. What absolute bollocks, why are we all here? We post photos and clever shit and pictures of food or our pets and things weve made and songs weve written and hope people will press Like. Thats it, Like. We all hope people will think we have some kind of intelligence even if were not really smart; we want people to think were fairly OK-looking, if not gorgeous; and funny and good at stuff and talented and honest and, most of all, NICE. We want people to like us, we want to be popular and, as a consequence amass hundreds of friends. Nothing has changed since facebook began save that we can be liked instantly and by loads of people without very much effort. Those who are the most needy change profile pictures daily for their daily fix of likes. We lap up reflected admiration through our pets and children and food and gardens and views. Some are so needy that they change personalities on here and appear loveable when, in fact, they are complete wankers. They make lovely comments when really they think the opposite. Theyll write Stunning daughter (pity about the third nostril). I KNOW these people. I even know of people who have complete alter egos on here or are indeed an invention of a saddo loser whom no one likes in the least so they become someone pretty and sporty and LIKEABLE. Someone else completely. I see friends become friends with friends and think, Youd absolutely hate this person if you really knew them. Do you notice that people who discuss such issues have been the victim of a divorce/break up/business deal/theft/bad childhood...no one has ever taken their other half to the cleaner, shafted anyone, stolen a damn thing, beaten their wife or child? If they told you the truth, you might not LIKE them. If anyone is genuine about not caring what people think, you can bet your ass that almost no one likes them. Facebook is fun. As I say, I post a lot of crap here and have fun and dont mind upsetting a few tossers and bigots, but I still want people to appreciate what I write/do/say/am. I, like you and everyone else except Larry Viner, want people to like me. Actually, he does also in his perverse way. I did upset someone I liked once and was devastated. Mind you, it was his fault. However, carry on impressing us, but dont pretend you dont care what people think because, if you didnt, you wouldnt be here.
