Obstacles!!!-----Impatience. unfamiliar materials. self consciousness. three things i am dealing with in the studio today. so i started four new paintings on PVC primed linen. i dont usually use linen ( though i have in the past) and what is throwing me off is the rich brown color of the linen.. it looks like cardboard. which makes my palette heavier in tone. feels unfamiliar to me. i thought these would be quiet paintings.. built up slowly. but my impatience to solve the problem of the painting has me just throwing more and more paint on these.. and then scrapping it off. maybe i am worrying too much about letting the linen show? sometimes i just have to go with my impatience.. hard for me to stop and wait. though i did get some scrap pieces of linen so i might work out some ideas on these small scraps. and my self consciousness is that voice that keeps saying ... what will people think? these are ugly. there are penises in the landscape!!! anyway.. got to shut out those voices and let the painting unfold. What is happening in your studio? what obstacles are you working though? and also any advice on painting on linen?! oh and happy saturday!! yay painting!!!
