Obviously a Kevin can’t change his spots. Wasn’t it the new Kevin who was going to consult widely? Wasn’t it the New Kevin who was going to negotiate an accord between unions and business? Was this the New Kevin who yesterday announced changes to the calculation of fringe benefit on package lease cars without any industry consultation at all? The same ill conceived, poorly thought out policy on the run that reduced the northern beef industry to its knees now stands ready to decimate not only the car industry but the fleet-lease and packaging industry as well. With one major lease company requesting a trading freeze on its shares and others set to follow. Paul King, the managing director of Selectus (one of Australia’s largest salary packaging companies) has flagged the redundancy of up to 80 people by week’s end and the redundancy of up to 80% of their staff over the coming months. This is pink batts all over again. This is another NBN worked out on the back of a drink coaster. This is another mining tax developed without any industry consultation. This is ill conceived, poorly thought out policy made on the run without consultation. This is more of the same old Kev. This is a disgrace.
