Occupants of a Lloydminster residence managed to evacuate on time after their residence caught on fire. The Lloydminster Fire Department responded to the call shortly after 6 p.m. on Thursday at a residence located at 5314, 34 St. “Upon arrival there was heavy smoke and a lot of fire, but due to quick dispatch and fast response from the fire department we managed to contain the fire to the back of the house with minimal fire damage,” said deputy fire chief Jordan Newton. There were no injuries from the fire and the house is still habitable, although repairs will have to be made before the heating system can function again. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it was located around the chimney area and fireplace. Newton said the fire could have been a lot more serious had the fire department been dispatched later on. “Remember to get your fireplace inspected annually and to make sure your smoke alarms are in working order,” he said.
