Occupy Canada via OpenMedia.ca From OpenMedia.ca Last Thursday, MP Charmaine Borg asked for an emergency debate in the House of Commons to help shed light on the near-total secrecy around electronic-eavesdropping agencies CSEC and CSIS. Unfortunately, MP Borg’s request was turned down by the Speaker of the House, but we do want to acknowledge her efforts in standing up for Canadians’ privacy and government transparency, and in pushing other politicians to make similar efforts. Although OpenMedia.ca is a post-partisan organization, we believe it’s important to acknowledge politicians who listen to Canadians and take steps towards Internet openness, including online privacy and data security. We would again encourage other politicians of any party or affiliation to stand up for their constituents’ interests in this matter as well. ~S
