Ocean Tumbled Sea Glass ~ an East Coast Treasure Summer season - TopicsExpress

Ocean Tumbled Sea Glass ~ an East Coast Treasure Summer season is weeks away & suddenly Sea Glass Jewellry appears everywhere. When looking at pieces to include in our inventory, assuring we have authentic pieces is paramount. Call me a quality junky, but you see a sad fact is that many are duped into purchasing glass that has been manufactured & not harvested. There are easy ways to tell the difference between surf-tumbled sea glass and man-made. It’s in the details: Edges: Smooth edges ~ rounded pieces are indicative of surf-tumbled glass. Jagged edges ~ tell tale sign of artificial glass. If you see harsh or jagged edges all around, chances are you are looking at an attempt to mimic nature. Colour: Though natural sea glass comes in a variety of colours; white, aqua, cobalt, green & amber are most common. Yellows, reds, pinks, orange and purples do make an appearance, although with considerably less frequency. Frost: Surprisingly enough, not all sea glass is frosted. The deeper the frost, the longer amount of time the piece has rolled in the surf & tumbled against the stones of our craggy east coast shores. The choice is ultimately yours. As for me, I love the deeply frosted pieces best. Imagine the amount of time it took to create.
