Oct. 10 Daily Announcements: Parking Lot Reminders: -- Please make sure that you lock your Vehicle. -- On Friday, we will leave the middle of the Main Parking Lot open for our guests for Grandparents Day. Please park in the back. Dress Code Info/Reminder: -- Students in Grades 6-12 may wear school approved 3/4 zip pullovers without a collared shirt underneath them. If students do that, they need to keep that pullover on all day. The pullover does not need to be zipped up all the way, but if the non-collared shirt becomes a distraction, Administration may change this Allowance. Students must have a Collared shirt on under anything that is dress code legal that is a Full Zip. Tuesday October 14 will be a blue out day! Cost is $2.00, and the proceeds will go to Stand for the Silence. No face paint is allowed, but blue hair streaks are encouraged. Cell Phone Reminders: -- Students should not be on your cell phones in the cafeteria, the hallway, the gym or the locker room. It is not ok to be on your cell phone in these areas. As a reminder, unless you have teacher permission, cell phones should be locked in your locker during the school day. Dance team tshirt order forms are in the office and need to be placed by noon Tuesday 10/14. Shirts are lime green with a black and silver design. Include payment with your order and checks are made out to: Columbus Stuff. Shirts should be ready for delivery 10/21-22. Tshirts are $15. Book Collection box in the Main Office **The Cedar Valley Youth Action Council has recently started a literacy campaign. We are planning to collect gently used books and then donate them to local children’s organizations where we will be working with kids to teach them the value of reading and education. To collect the books we are placing donation boxes in businesses, organizations, and schools around the Cedar Valley. See Melanie Erazio White if you have any questions. Time to sign up if you are planning on going out for wrestling. There is a sign up sheet in the office. Practice will start on Monday, November 17th. The Academic Boosters have spotlighted the Gold Award Winners (grade point 3.7 and higher) and Silver Award Winners (3.3 grade point to 3.69 grade point) by hanging locker clings. These clings can be reused, adhered to any surface including mirrors, walls, windows, and they are even weather resistant for your car. We have also sent out the Certificate of Achievement Awards with a discount card and Academic Letter and/or Pin if the student qualifies. To earn an Academic Letter (received only once), a student must have a 3.7 grade point for the semester. Every semester after earning the Letter, they receive a gold bar pin if they achieve a 3.7 grade point. The Silver Award students receive a certificate and discount card. We are proud of all your academic achievements. Congratulations Sailors! Tryouts for Winter Cheerleading will be Wednesday, October 15th @ 3:15pm in the MPR. There is a sign up sheet in the office. Deadline to apply is December 5, 2014. -- Applications for the Kenneth G. Meyerhoff Memorial Scholarship are now available in the guidance office. This scholarship is open to any graduating senior, or students in higher education, and can be renewed each year. Deadline is March 3, 2015. -- Applications are in the guidance office for the United States JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship. The number of $1,000 grants awarded annually will be at the discretion of the United States JCI Senate Foundation. They must be used for educational expenses in the first year of full-time study. Deadline to apply isJanuary 9, 2015. -- Information and application for Aurora Universitys Musical Excellence Scholarship Competition on Saturday, February 21st can be found at aurora.edu/musicscholarship. Youth Ministry News: Service Hours Opportunities: You can knock out several service hours with any of these service opportunities. Contact Annie Zeets ASAP to sign up for any or all service experiences. --Sunday, Oct. 12th: Topic Night: Who Am I? 6:30-8pm in the youth office. --Saturday, Oct. 25th: Tenth Avenue North in concert at the Gallagher Bluedorn. Tickets are $20 each which includes dinner. Ticket order forms are in the youth office. Ticket order deadline is Oct. 15th. --Sunday, Nov. 2nd: Archdiocesan Youth Rally. Sirius Faith 9:30am-5:30pm at the Five Sullivan Brothers Center in Waterloo. Music, workshops, jumpy castles and mass with Archbishop Jackels. $40 for the day. Registration forms are located in the theology classrooms and the youth office. Registration forms and money are due by Oct. 15th to Annie Zeets.
