Oct. 28, 1980 A USAF Lockheed YMC-130H Hercules, outfitted with experimental JATO rockets for Operation Credible Sport, a planned second attempt to rescue American hostages held by Iran, is destroyed when the rockets misfire during a test landing at Wagner Field, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. All crew members survive, but the rescue operation is deemed excessively risky and is cancelled. The aircraft, 74-1683, retained its Credible Sport STOL modifications and was used as the test bed for the MC-130 Combat Talon IIs development, under the project name Credible Sport II. It is currently on display at the Museum of Aviation at Warner-Robbins AFB, Georgia. youtube/watch?v=fSFjhWw4DNo
