October 12,2014 Indigenous People’s Sunday 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time Lord, You invite us to Your banquet to be united with You in Your heavenly kingdom of peace and righteousness. Help me to enthusiastically accept and value Your invitation to reach heaven by living a genuine Christian life and by putting Your interests before my own. Guide me to respond positively to Your invitation to conversion by striving to live according to Your commandments, by loving and forgiving unconditionally and by faithfully serving You and others selflessly. Grant that I may continually renew my baptismal promises to remain ever faithful to You and to reject the temptation of the evil one so that I can keep my wedding garment clean and worthy enough to take my place at Your table. As I actively participate in the divine wedding feast here on earth, may I willingly learn how to sacrifice myself out of love for You and my neighbor, instead of being a mere passive recipient of Your blessings, because my selfishness may find me inadequately dressed for Your eternal wedding banquet. May I strive to clothe myself with heartfelt mercy, kindness, humility, meekness and patience, constantly focusing my attention and efforts on achieving true communion with You as I grow in the hope of seeing You face to face in paradise someday. And as we celebrate Indigenous People’s Sunday, may we remind ourselves to respect the culture and traditions of the indigenous peoples by not depriving them of their ancestral domain and by responding to the longings of those whose basic needs are not met due to sheer poverty.
