October 16, 2014 Devotion: WHO IS GOD? There is an abundance of people who claim to know God. Even more say that they have a relationship with God. Then there are those who are angry at God. Finally you have the crowd who doesn’t believe He exists. No matter how you look at it, God is a name that never grows old and never stops being talked about. So, who is God? Let’s start with who He is not. • God is not a genie in a bottle, at your beck and call to give you whatever you wish for. • God is not a drill sergeant. • God is not an unstable being. • God shows no partiality. • God is not evil. • God is not the enemy. As social media has expanded into a regular activity for most people, the subject of God is often talked about. One of the biggest mistakes made my man, whether it be the next door neighbor, or a famous preacher on television, is that God HATES (fill in the blank). The truth is God’s justice is often misunderstood by many, for just as He loves those that live according to the righteousness of God, He also loves the sinners, but hates the sins they commit. 1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. Deuteronomy 10:17 For the Lord your God is God of Gods and Lord of Lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe. God gave us the Ten Commandments to help guide us to a life free from sin. These are not rules that cause you harm, but steps to keep you from harm. Sin is inevitable, but learning and growth is what God hopes to help us accomplish from it. God does not ban people from worshiping Him just because they sinned. Sinners are students and God is the ultimate teacher. Whatever your sin(s) may be, take it to Him and learn how to overcome it. He will welcome you with open arms and steer you into a path of love and peace. Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God proves true; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Talk to Him now. Tell Him your weaknesses. Tell Him your heart. Ask Him for guidance. Trust in Him. No matter what “man” says, God is the ultimate judge and the One you will answer to. YOU ARE LOVED.
