October 17, 1979: NOTE: I include this for personal opinion because I dont believe she deserved the award any more than Obama (even less) -- Mother Teresa of India was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Short and sweetly, M. Morris wrote, The words Mother Teresa are modern-shorthand for things like good, kind-hearted, and selfless. Unfortunately, the real Mother Teresa was an authoritarian crook who palled around with some of the most despicable men of her day. This woman believed that pain drew us closer to God and denied medication to alleviate screams of pain from those in her hospital (a.k.a. torture house). This should not be a surprise from a woman siding with vicious dictators. Prayer, after all, would heal them or take them not-so-peacefully home. In the case of one 16-year-old boy, his condition required only a kidney transplant that would have allowed him to go on to a full life. Did she use any of her (always magically disappearing) millions to help this boy (housed in her hospital or was it simply added to the church coffers and to shore up dictators with contributions? It wasnt the former. Though a regional hospital offered the transplant, she decided to leave it in Gods hands. If those hands really exist, thats exactly where that boy soon went, obviously deemed an unworthy recipient of her precious aid.
