October 19, 2014 Psalm 19:7-14, “The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the LORD are sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is clear, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey, and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. But who can detect their errors? Clear me from hidden faults. Keep back your servant also from the insolent; do not let them have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” O God our Father, our Redeemer and Sustainer thank you for waking us to your Holy Sabbath that we may gather to worship you. Thank you for our redemption and salvation through your blessed Son, our Savior, Jesus—for His love is beyond our shallow human understanding. Father you know us so very well—your Law is perfect as is your love for us. Help us to keep your Law because we love you—help us also to use wisely your law as the filter for our efforts in ministry and in compassion for those who are insolent will readily recognize that we are yours and that their deviousness and devices will fail against your might and desire. In the end of days we will stand one by one in front of your Son for our judgment—may the sweetness of your law be our joy and not a weapon. May our desire be only to serve you in faith. Father we pray for our nation and the world to turn their hearts to you renouncing satan and his evil. Father we ask for your holy protection of the men and women who serve in the military, police, fire, protective, emergency and medical services throughout our land and the world and their loved ones as they serve—please protect them as they serve. Bless and keep safe all the workers who are dealing with the deadly Ebola and Entero viruses wherever they may be. Please lay your healing hands upon the sick, the injured, the maimed, the broken, the chronically and acutely suffering among us that each may feel your Holy renewal. Recover the addicted and the depressed. Give your loving care to those whose earthly lives are ending or have ended—comfort the grieving and those who mourn. You know the needs of our hearts and we ask you in the Name of Jesus to let your will be done in filling those needs. Father your Holy Church is under attack this day—please gird us with the strength, wisdom, spiritual grace and courage to fend off all evil that approaches her—for we have committed our lives and treasure that are yours on loan to your service. Inspire us to service. Get us up off our pews and into Holy labor that brings glory to you Father. You made us for you pleasure and joy—help us make the keeping of your Law our joy and our desire. Please keep strong and deliberate those in mission fields wherever she or he may be this morning that the power of redemption through Jesus is seconds away from those whom they may encounter or reach. As your Holy Church gathers this day let us not forget that we are one church, one in the Holy Spirit, one in the brotherhood of Jesus the Christ for we are called by your Name, we are your people and you are our God. These and our joined unspoken prayers are offered in the Redeeming Name of Jesus. Amen.
