October 1st Day 10 SOME GOOD NEWS The X-Rays still indicates that Mike’s lung is not fully inflated hovering around 95%. He has some fluid trapped in the Chest Cavity but Dr. West has agreed to turn off the suction! Mike’s lungs are clear and he is climbing the walls as you would expect an action Hero to do. Like an animal, caged by tubes and machines to repeatedly pace an 8 foot section of his room for days. Mike walked down the hall carrying his Pleurovac boxes that are no longer attached to the wall. For the first time Mike was seeing the hall, the nurses’ station, the area where I warmed his food in the Microwave. From the window’s view I pointed out where the truck is parked, and showed him where the helicopter landed when he was brought into the trauma center. Having arrived via helicopter he had only a micro view of St. Mary’s. Through a window on the other side of the building I showed Mike the little church where I attended mass, the original hospital built in the 1940’s and the coast line dotted with high rises. We could see Luxury in the distance, just a car ride away from this depressed part of West Palm Beach. A series of X-Rays will be done this afternoon and tomorrow to measure his lungs ability to function without suction. If his lung demonstrates positive signs one or both tubes will be removed from his chest. If all goes well he will be released on Friday or Saturday. Mike is doing everything he can to get out as quickly as possible. He is standing, using his Incentive Spirometer and soon will be lapping the halls of the third floor. Soon our friend Brad from Okeechobee will be here with dinner from Smoky Bones. The day is looking up!
