October 20, 2014 Ottawa Rowing Club crews took two third place finishes at the 50th Head of the Charles regatta in Boston on the weekend. Matthew Fournier finished third in the lightweight mens single category with Alex Kunkel of the ORC in 12th and follow ORC member Josh King in 20th. Ottawa’s Matt Christie who rows for Queen’s University was seventh in the race. Louise Munro and Hayley Watt were also third for the ORC in the women’s youth double category beaten only by a crew from Germany and one from the US of the 33 entries. The ORC’s Mark Chapman took fifth of the 37 rowers in the senior masters single category while the ORC’s men’s youth four of Chris Clarke, Alex Bernst, Graham Connell, Jon Hamilton and cox Khalil Daibes finished eighth and top Canadian crew of 85 boats entered in the category. The ORCs Josh Weissbock took 8th in the club mens 1x out of 35 entries and Anna Currie placed 14th out of 23 in the lightweight womens 1x. Carleton University’s coxed four of Charles Li-Benard, Paul Vermuelen, Eric Farquharson, Luc Beaudouin, and cox Matt Noel finished 14th of 44 in its category. The ORC’s womens masters eight with Jenn Shortall, Pamela Peacock, Karin Germann, Marcella Tendilla, Amy Moen, Maureen McEvoy, Caitlin Salter-MacDonald, Alison Patrick, and cox Jeremy Courtney was also 14th in its category. The regatta through downtown Boston is internationally known, attracts competitors from around the world and is one of the largest regattas in North America.
