October 25, 2013 – Friday Psalm 65:8 New Revised Standard Version Those who live at earth’s farthest bounds are awed by your signs; you make the gateways of the morning and the evening shout for joy. FRESH BEGINNINGS There is a company in the town where I live that is named Fresh Beginnings. A friend once asked the owner why he chose this name. The owner’s vision for the company was in part to give a “Fresh Beginning” to people who had either been out of work for an extended time or who could not seem to keep a job. What a magnificent purpose for a business. Thinking about this vision we can all name times when God has given us fresh beginnings. The psalmist in the above verse describes how a gracious and loving God offers us fresh beginnings at the start our day and in the evenings when the day ends. All the stuff that has happened in-between is now history and does not define the joy of a new day nor the joy at the beginning of the evening. So allow God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to make the gateways of your morning and evening shout for joy. Prayer: Lord Jesus, lead us to shout for joy as we experience fresh beginnings this day. You make all things new and we need you to teach us to leave the past in its place. Use us today as examples of the joy that come from a gracious, loving and forgiving God. Give us fresh beginnings this day. Amen
