General Hooker and his corps advance to the foot of Lookout Mountain, at Chattanooga. The cracker line (supply line) becomes operational, enabling supplies to reach Union soldiers trapped at Chattanooga. The Confederate siege (there) is being loosened. Union General Banks expedition from New Orleans to the Rio Grande begins. Scattered fighting throughout the South in Arkansas, Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee & Alabama.
