October 30, 2014 Dear Friends, For a second month this year we - TopicsExpress

October 30, 2014 Dear Friends, For a second month this year we were unable to make a payment toward our Conference Apportionments in October. Giving to the Ministry Budget in October and September has been well below average. We are now $8,500 behind in apportionment giving for the year, having also been unable to make our July payment. Historically, we rebound in giving and attendance the last two months of the year and this year, like the others before it, we need for that to happen. Sunday we will begin a four-part sermon series on Thanksgiving. During this series we are asking you to prayerfully consider and return the estimate of giving card you picked up last Sunday or that was mailed to you this week, for the 2015 Church Ministry Budget. On Sunday we will look at Giving Thanks for the Past. Everyone has a history which includes ancestors and the gifts they have passed on to us. Some of those gifts are natural and we have no choice over, like our DNA. Other gifts are their narrative, and stories that can be instructive or inspirational. And still other gifts are possessions that we must decide whether to keep or repurpose in some way. The church also has a history, both to treasure and to pass on to future generations. History is a gift to be thankful for and a guide to the present and future. We will also be sharing Communion as part of this Sunday’s worship service. A gluten free serving station will be offered at the 10:00 a.m. service. I hope you can be present with us for one of our worship celebrations. Wasn’t it a great Kansas City Royals season?! Most of us would have liked the final score to be different at the end of game 7, but what an accomplishment to have been playing in that game! I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the Royals play this post season, and proud to call them my home team. Sometimes, I think, we can forget how blessed we are to live where we live. The spotlight always seems to be on someone or somewhere else. As they say, the grass is always greener. Then, the spotlight falls on you and suddenly you are reminded that we truly are a part of a special place. Let’s try not to forget that now that the spotlight is moving on. What can we take from this remarkable and special season of baseball? Gratefulness, for what we get to enjoy and live each and every day and season, and the people of this area that we share it all with. Blessings to you, Rusty Trunk or Treat this Friday Please join us as we welcome our neighbors and guests to pass our treats and share a free chili supper on Friday, October 31 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The trunks will be scattered throughout our lower parking lot and the chili supper will take place in the Family Life Center. If you have signed up to help, thank you. If you haven’t, you are still welcome to join us! Time Change this Sunday Remember to change your clocks this Sunday; it is “Fall Back” Sunday as Daylight Saving Time ends.
