October 5 This was a date that once shone with hope. It was a date - TopicsExpress

October 5 This was a date that once shone with hope. It was a date with destiny. A date we were all told to be that date when Guyana could have hoped to start the journey toward freedom, transparency and progress. Alas, the rampage started and the pillars of hope, freedom, transparency and progress became dust to those who were intent on building their own empires, as their fascination with power and wealth set the country on a path of personal projects, deceptive corporate veils and abusive power. The dream of October 5 is lost. In my view it is now a celebration of lost opportunities. Maybe we can use this October 5 to ensure that we find another dream. I think we can do it. Those of us who do not mind tilling the soil and teaching our kids. We would never get the help and the support as those who do nothing but get it all - but at the end of the day, this land is collectively ours and the future can only be determined by our collective vision - and not by a handful of egos who are bent on making this country a wasteland of personal desires, corrupt officials and uncaring politicians. Are we anything more than a nation serving the interest of a handful of insecure egos from all sides of the political divide? The world watches and surely God awaits our collective step-up to make this country a nation to be proud.
