October 7 hearing of Taman Tun residents’ suit against MRT Corp: KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — The suit filed by 12 residents of Taman Tun Dr Ismail against Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) for compensation over the location of the project opposite their landed properties will be heard on October 7. Judge Rosilah Yop set the date in chambers today in the presence of counsel for the residents, Shaharudin Ali, and for MRT Corp, David Mathew. Ho Lee Yoke, 55, and 11 others filed the suit in February. In their statement of claim, the residents, who own link houses along Jalan Pinggir Zaaba, said MRT Corp had a duty to ensure that the project was implemented legally and safely. They said they received the notice of intention in February 2011, which indicated that their land, among others, was likely to be acquired for the Klang Valley MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line. They said they had agreed to sell their properties to MRT Corp after a series of meetings between the two sides but received a letter dated July 24 last year from MRT Corp saying that their properties would not be acquired. The residents are seeking, among others, a declaration that the project is illegal and unlawful and that they are entitled to compensation. Alternatively, they are seeking general and equitable damages as well as RM22,000 in special damages. — Bernama dlvr.it/3xhJ0m
