October 8, 1942 (Thursday, 4:15 o’clock) Darling Nicky; Say honey you know I told you in the letter I wrote this morning that Mrs. Whitten called me and told me I had a letter at home and since I’m until 9:o’clock, what do you think I did? Why I called the postal tel. and had a boy go up and bring me the letter. I just couldn’t wait until 9:o’clock. Gee honey it was a sweet letter, in fact they are always nice. I’m so sorry to hear about the poor boy loosing his eyes. Darling you please be carefull and don’t let anything happen to you. If anything did I’d go crazy and I know it. I worry about you so much. How’s your foot? Did it finally get ok. I hope so anyway. Yes Darling. I get a letter from you either in the morning or afternoon + oh! How I love to get those letters. Honey the only reason each letter isn’t a long one is because I don’t have enough time to write a long one every time, but I’ve written every day this week and a few days last week. I’ll keep it up too, regardless of what anyone says or thinks. Honey about Joe’s Malone, I never kept any company with her. I’ve never been out with her or even been to the movies or anything like that, the only thing she worked at the Romeo’s on 22nd St. and the same time I did. She got fired up there just on account of the way she acts. She is a wild girl, you know what I mean when I say that, I don’t like to talk about anyone but that boy is playing with fire and I sure pity him. I could tell him lots about her. If he a pretty good guy, honey you kindly give him a hint as to her type. Why she’s been married twice, has a kid and ect. So much for that, don’t think I’m “an old gossiping hen” though darling. I don’t do that but I don’t mind telling you because I know you won’t think that about me. No Darling, I haven’t told the family about us, but my sister, that you met, went out home so she told them about you. “She said she told mom I was in love and that she had met my boy friend and that he appeared to be a swell fellow.” So Mom said that she would let me be the judge about that because I knew more than any one what I wanted in life. She said she hopes I marry someone that loves me and will make me happy. Gee darling, how you’d love to talk to her. She’s so nice and understanding. She worries about me being away from home. They try to get me to quit work and stay out there but I don’t like it at all. Why it’s to far out in the country about 3 miles from the city limits. Oh! Yes! I haven’t forgotten you called me a little country girl didn’t you? I resent that too, why? Cause I haven’t lived out there Ha. Ha. When they moved out there I moved to town and started working and here if been for years. It’s nice for just one day, you know, go out there eat a good meal, lounge around, go for a swim, play tennice, ect. But along about 8:30 or 9:o’clock I start saying “I’ll have to go now.” Darling I’m surprised at you. The very idea of you saying I don’t want people to know I’m engaged. I’ve told everyone already. Why- I want the whole world to know it. Don’t you? I wear my little wings all the time and if any one says any thing about them I tell them what they mean to me, that is, that they are my little engagement pin. Say darling lets forget about a ring and a neckless will you? You know why? I figure you aren’t able to do that right now. After all you got to pay the $50 a month. But darling any kind of ring you gave me if it was brass would be swell for me, just because it was from you. I don’t personally care for jewelry, but if you insist then we will have one but it must not cost much and I mean it. You asked me if I’d marry you in the letter. Gee! What do you think honey? I cannot hardly wait until I see you. I miss you so much and think of you all the time, And every night when I go to bed no matter what time. I say a nice long prayer for you and for you and I too, that someday we will be together like we should be. Darling will you please take care of yourself? I’ll be more worried, now that I know what happened to that boy. Honey I’ve almost written a book darling. So I’ll close and I hope you gotten all the letters I’ve written by now. I love you always. I write tomorrow. Opal. I Love You
