October 8, 2013, Quote from "Falling into Darkness" page 70: At present they had several executive investigations ongoing, but the highest level of all involved a bridge that had collapsed in West Virginia. The bridge spanned a deep ravine between two mountain tops with a small river flowing below. Generally traffic flowed smoothly over this bridge. It was on an Interstate and not close to any large cities where there would be traffic jams during rush hour. But it was a highly used Interstate, one of the main connectors to haul heavy loads in a Northwest – Southeast pattern without going miles out of the way. But on this particular day, a tractor-trailer had jack-knifed when it struck 3 deer running across the highway. The contents of the truck had been spilled across all lanes and traffic had been backed up for miles while waiting for the cleanup. There were 22 vehicles on the bridge, including 2 tractor-trailers, when it collapsed. There were 41 deaths, with only one survivor. A baby, only a few weeks old, still strapped in his car seat had been rescued. Miraculously, the backseat of his mother’s SUV escaped being crushed by the slab of concrete that had shattered the entire front half of the vehicle.
