October 9, 2014 Dear City College Colleagues and Students: In keeping with our policy of full disclosure regarding safety issues, I want to inform you of a situation that occurred a few hours ago on the City College campus. The statement below, which has been released to the media, provides the facts. In addition, we are reaching out to assist the student who was attacked. We will also commend the students who intervened in the situation since they were able to recover the young woman’s property and hold the alleged attacker until College Police and San Diego Police responded. Statement on City College Incident At approximately 11:19 a.m. this morning, a 24-year old female student at San Diego City College was injured by a 54-year old male in what appears to have been a robbery at the Mathematics and Social Sciences Building near 16th and C streets. The victim was shoved against a wall (not stabbed as initially reported to the press). Students who were nearby reportedly tackled the suspect and he was taken into custody by police. Officers from both the San Diego Community College District Police and the San Diego Police Department responded. The female student has been transported to the UCSD Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. An investigation is underway by the San Diego Community College District Police. Classes at City College are continuing as scheduled. More information will be shared as it is available.
