October Events at Saratoga Spa State Park! Saturday, October 4th, 10a.m.: Dash for the Dog Park 5k The Dash for the Dog Park 5K is a family friendly, pet friendly walk/run in the heart of the Saratoga Spa State Park. Organized by the Friends of the Saratoga Spa State Park Dog Park, the Dash for the Dog Park will help fund amenities at the dog park. We welcome all runners, walkers, families, and of course, dogs, to participate in this 5K event. For interested runners, race timing and results will be available. Monday, October 6th, 11 a.m.: Fall Foliage Walk Come celebrate fall with a walk around Spa Park! We will look for plants, animals, and other signs of fall and admire the fall foliage. Thursday, October 9th, 7 p.m.: Full Moon Walk Join us for an evening hike where we will observe the full moon and other wonders of the night sky, as well as listen to the nights sounds of the park. Join us for a science experiment where we will discover why leaves change colors in the fall. We will also be creating a fall themed craft. This program is recommended for ages 10 and under. Sunday, October 12th, 10a.m.: A Taste of History Savor a taste of history as you saunter through the park and sip from several of our natural mineral springs! During this one hour tour, patrons will experience some of the most outstanding architecture, geology and natural history in Saratoga Springs. This program costs $3. Registration is required. Please call (518) 584-2000 Ext. 116 to register. Tuesday, October 14th, 3p.m.: Migration Mayhem Join us as we learn about the fall habits of animals and how many migrate to new places for the winter. Wednesday, October 15th, 10a.m.: Nature Storytime and Fall Craft Join us for some nature-themed stories and make a fall craft with natural items. This program is appropriate for ages 1-12. Tuesday, October 21st, 10 a.m.: Reptile Awareness Day Join us as we learn about the unique characteristics of reptiles and why they are important. All ages welcome. Wednesday, October 22nd, 10a.m.: Preschool Naturalists Preschool Naturalists is a nature class designed for children ages 3 to 5. This hour long program will focus on using all five senses to explore a certain aspect of the outdoor world. Children will also enjoy a nature related story and craft. Learn how to build a fire and cook camp bread over an open flame! This program is appropriate for ages 7 and up. Registration is required. Please call (518) 584-2000 Ext. 116 to register. Fee is $3 per person or $5 per family. Tuesday, October 28th, 4p.m.: Hug A Tree and Survive! The Hug a Tree and Survive program teaches children how to survive in the woods should they become lost. This program is appropriate for children ages 6 to 12, and lasts approximately 45 minutes. The program includes a video and demonstrations. Wednesday, October 29th, 11 a.m.: Preschool Explorers Come out and explore nature with your preschoolers. We will be using our five senses to discover the wonders of the natural world. Friday, October 31st, 10:30 a.m. Pumpkin Craft Celebrate Halloween with a pumpkin craft in the park! This program is recommended for children under the age of 10. Registration is required. Saturday, November 1st, 10:30 a.m.: Halloween Themed Learn to Geocache Join us for a Halloween themed hunt during which we will learn the basics of geocaching and how to use a GPS to find hidden caches filled with Halloween candy! Sunday, November 2nd, 10a.m.: Fall Back Five Trail Race Get off of the roads and run the trails of the Spa! Starting in the mall, runners will enjoy a mix of single track and double track trails as they get a five mile tour of the park. $20.00 (pre-registered) $25.00 for day-of registrants.
