October is breast cancer awareness month. But for a survivor, and their family it is everyday. Today I found myself so emotional at the thought of this world wind of a journey. My mother is honestly the strongest woman I know and has been through more in her life than some will ever even know she went through. Breast cancer was another step in her journey that she chose to face with bravery and a strong faith like no other. She was never doubtful of her God or his plan. She never said why me. She never blamed, asked for pity or whined. She simply decided that it was a part of her journey and that it would get her or she would get it. Sometimes while we worry about everyday events, others are worried about their next doctor visit. I always looked at my mom and thought gosh this seems harder on us than her. It is a painful process for everyone involved. However, in the end we are all stronger. Stronger in faith, and in our relationships with each other. Most of you will never realize how supportive you even were to us. A simple picture of you in pink, or a text, card, email, decorated locker (thanks to STRH peeps), endless prayers, attending our party in pink for mom (Susan Davenport even left graduation to come tell her amazing story)... and all the other countless things. They ALL mattered and they are all what helped push through. I want to stress that while I get focused on mom, we need not forget that sooooo many men suffer breast cancer too. My husbands grandfather whom I never had the pleasure of knowing, lost his battle to breast cancer years ago. My wheels are turning on what all I want to do to honor this month of pink so stay tuned:) In the meantime, be kind. You never know what someone is going through. Be their friend. Pray for them. After all, thats what its all about.
