October was filled with lots of different activities. In addition to learning many new songs and finger-plays as well as reading many, many stories, we also learned about different colors and shapes. We have daily activities for fine and gross motor skills, which are always FUN! We have had several FUN themes this month which we include in our circle activities, projects, pre-reading and pre-math activities. Fire safety included matching shapes on our firemen. We counted spots on our fire house dogs and found the right collar for him. We colored fire on the sidewalk and squirted it out like real firemen. Fireman Nathaniel came and talked to us about fire safety and we watched him put on his uniform before we practiced fire drills with him. The next week, we had lots of fun learning about spiders. They eat bugs. We wrapped up insects like spiders do and made spider webs. We made spiders to eat. We learned why spiders dont stick to their own webs. We know what color blood spiders have ... do you? We practiced counting to eight because ... right they have 8 eyes and 8 legs too! Last week we learned about bats. We know they are mammals and are nocturnal. We know that means that they have hair or fur and sleep during the day. We counted bats and matched letters with our bats. Our sensory table was a little batty that week. We also talked about owls. We discussed how they are alike and how they are different. Owls have feathers so they are birds. They are both nocturnal.
