Odd thought: Why do I see a lot more people walking around wearing glasses than hearing aids? Why did we evolve in such a way that our eyes get screwed up more easily than our ears? Hypothesis: If you cant hear clearly, youre likely to be eaten by a predator; but if you cant see clearly, you can still see clearly enough to detect something that will eat you. Corollary: Sharply-focused vision didnt really become necessary until we began knapping flint, and even then, not being able to see clearly wasnt going to kill you before you could reproduce. Glasses didnt become widespread in the general population until we began to aim for universal literacy.
