Oddest problem. Changing over an old security light to a new one - TopicsExpress

Oddest problem. Changing over an old security light to a new one with a motion activation device. Old one works, bulb works, but as soon as I switch, bulb flickers, hums, and quits. There are only two wires to connect, one white, and one black. I did that correctly. No ideas. Current seems fine, as I put in a cheater plug and ran my drill from it. Didnt have a spare bulb to see if it is just an odd bulb death. Going to have to do that first, but for now, its a stumper.
