Odisha to follow AIPMT for MBBS Odisha will not conduct state-level entrance for MBBS and BDS admissions in 2014. It will take students from the merit list of All India Pre-Medical Entrance Test (AIPMT) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), government authorities said on Tuesday. Last year, Odisha had taken students for undergraduate (UG) medical and dental admission from the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET UG). The Supreme Court struck down NEET on July 18 as illegal. The Centre has moved SC to review its July 18 order, said principal secretary (health and medical education) Pradipta Mohapatra. The state government on Tuesday wrote to CBSE expressing its willingness to be part of AIPMT. After the SC struck down the NEET arrangement, the CBSE started preparations for AIPMT, the pre-2013 system for admissions to 15% seats of state medical colleges and all seats of central government-run medical institutions. It simultaneously wrote to states if they would like to fill up 85% seats in their medical colleges from the AIPMT state merit list. The state government agreed to the proposal. For the 85% seats under the state quota, admissions would be through state merit list of AIPMT by following the state reservation norms. The counseling would be done by OJEE. Admissions for the rest 15% seats would be from the AIPMT national merit list, Mohapatra said. AIPMT is scheduled on May 4. CBSE has said syllabus for the entrance examination is the same as notified by the Medical Council of India for NEET-UG. The entrance test would consist of one paper with 180 objective-type questions from physics, chemistry, botany and zoology (45 questions from each subject).(TOI)
