Of Tuyo, Doctors and Taxes...: There are 2 issues that piqued my interest today. That of the Shaming of a supposed Thief in Tanauan, Batangas who allegedly stole 16,000 peso worth of dried fish. The mayor of the town, allowed that the alleged thief, be forcibly paraded in the public market with a signboard that says Magnanakaw, wag Tularan and forced the man to cry out the same. To make matters worse, A video of the incident was posted online. The other issue is that of the Shame Campaign of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) of several professions, particularly that of the Medical Doctors which portrays them as Tax evaders and socially irresponsible in the payment of their prescribed taxes. What have we become? When Persons in Authority are given the discretion to put a Person and an entire Profession to shame without Due Process. I do not condone thievery or tax evasion but when the Authority is allowed the prerogative to step upon the dignity of a person accused of a crime, when the basic rights of man is set aside for whatever purpose it would serve, then there is no LAW in this land. If we Allow the shaming of these people, what would stop the authorities involved from putting our dignity as citizens and as human beings in peril as well? WE ARE A GOVERNMENT OF LAWS...NOT OF MEN Again I say, When you Allow the Human Dignity of a fellowman to be abused, You in turn, lose Your Own... Please fight for the Right of our Fellowmen. Complain. Let Yourself be Heard. Marhay na Albay Tabi Saindo Gabos... -padingromy
