Of all the ignorant comments that I see on social media, I think the most irritating are the ones that slam science and the accumulation of knowledge. It may seem more important in the short term to focus our efforts on such noble causes as ending world hunger and lowering crime, but this attitude/opinion fails to take into account the long term benefits of scientific endeavour and plain old-fashioned curiosity. I see no long term benefits to waging useless wars that exhaust trillions of $$$ and result in the deaths of thousands or even millions. If even a fraction of those dollars (and efforts) were re-routed to humanitarian causes, the world would be a far better and kinder place to live in. I was going to end by saying One World, but NASA would probably disagree. :-)
