Of all the things I see and live in Greece, while working with animals - this is the type of rescue need that saddens me and touches me the most. The death of an animal rescuer or animal friend. The death of a person, who dedicated her life and what ever little money she had to care for animals: To remove them from the street, care for them, feed and make them healthy, to protect them. Now her life is over. The family, her friends - HER - humans, none wants to honor her memory by caring for these animals. All they can think of is how to empty the premises of cats and dogs. How lonely this woman must have felt, how lonely of human contact, love and acceptance? Her friends were her animals - her family the cats and dogs she rescued and cared for. Now, according to Greek law - they are to be returned to the streets, to fend for themselves - they are to be abandoned, condemned to exactly that life or death, that this woman wanted to protect them from. We, read these lines, feel sorry for a moment and continue with our day. They - mourn for their human companion more hones than any of us ever can. Rest in Peace, Mrs. Ianna. - Your friends the animals.
