Of course Lone Survivor and American Sniper have made truckloads of money and/or received Oscar nominations. As a society of five year olds, Americans have joyously handed over their cash and thrown themselves to the ground in pious acts of throne-worship. They can reaffirm their faith in delusional fairy tale versions of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars because Republican Jesus, Freedom, Benghazi, and the Second Amendment. Marcus Luttrell and Chris Kyle are/were pathologically dishonest, shrill, bigoted cartoon characters. Obviously that means they should be paid to retell their myths on camera with the help of a New Kids on the Block member and an elderly victim of dementia who shouts at furniture. Americans can rest easy knowing that Markie Mark and Bradley Cooper will always be able to take off their costumes and visit late night shows for amusing anecdotes. Thats basically how the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have played out. Call of Duty and Modern Warfare will be the next box office smash hits in 2016 and 2017 because wars are actually perfect models of video games. When people die, they reappear to finish battles in multiplayer mode. Those flag-draped coffins and funerals are myths that Jon Stewart and Rachel Maddow invented to discredit freedom. This is why we cant have nice things.
