Of course, royal visits to Canada will continue long after we become a republic. For example, during the diamond jubilee, members of the royal family visited India, Malaysia, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, Mozambique, Zambia, Malta and Uganda - all republics in the Commonwealth. The question is; despite the ridiculous and unverified claims that royal visits generate substantial tourism, should Canadians be expected to cover the travel costs of hosting visits here by the roughly dozen members of the Queens family? Because thats what we do now. No other head of state gets this treatment. After William and Kate visited here 3 years ago, they left for California to promote the British film industry (in direct competition to Canadas film industry, its worth mentioning). Although the US govt would cover the cost of the Queen, William and Kates travel costs were paid for by the private sector; the Audi car company, which supplies vehicles to the royal family. This is the model that CCR would like to see in Canada.
