Of course the good news for the night was that the folks down in Mosquito-Swansboro get to go home. The other piece of good news is the line on the west side of the fire from the Slab Creek reservoir to the rim of the Rubicon is complete! They still have unburned pockets between the control lines and the main fire and those are giving them a few interesting moments but they are pretty CLOSE to calling our side UP TO THE SOUTH RIM contained. The key is UP TO, not down into. The not so good news is that the slop-over from a few days ago on the south slope of the Rubicon drainage is giving them fits and that is why the Volcanoville-Quintette folks are not going home yet. They have put in a contingency line, are preparing another one out Peavine Point and are also going direct on the fire (cutting line right at the fires edge). They have hooked the head (meaning that the have gone along one flank of the slop over and around the head of it. This is known as hooking the head. They are now cutting underslung line along the downhill side closest to the river. There was a large spot fire near the mouth of Little Grizzly which caused some problems and the Zone 1 folks are cutting line around that and then down to meet the underslung line from our side. Once they have black line around the fire and have completed the contingency lines, you get to go home. The when all depends on the canyon winds. If the lines hold tonight and they get done with the line, it should be very soon. The other thing not mentioned before was if you have property tax issues relating to the fire, Contact Karl Weilands office for assistance. For you divide folks, our own Officer Hoey was the officer involved in the pursuit into Mosquito today and the unfortunate person is spending the night in jail according to him. She had no emergency, she just wanted to go home but unfortunately put others in danger in doing so including her cats that were already in the car with her. Did I miss anything? Any questions?
