Free world has been attacked many times before, but again, the slaughter in Paris stands out - an atrocity as heinous and despicable as the recent mass murder of children in Pakistan. For nothing is more sacred and sacrosanct in a civilized world than freedom of expression. And intelligent and compassionate satirists being massacred over some thing as stupid and irrelevant as god and religion, is simply not acceptable. We, the liberal atheists or humanists as a group are guilty of not being intolerant of intolerance - we rather accept it as a way of life ! Every one has a right to ridicule the ridiculous and it is the basic right of one and all to say what they believe in without the risk of being murdered. It is inevitable that some may get offended, but violence as a response to satire isnt the way forward in the 21st century. It is even more shocking that the so-called liberal press of the West chose to censor the Charlie Hebdo cartoons - thus handing over the victory to the cowardly terrorists and insulting the martyrs of liberal democracy in one go. It is even more hypocritical and immoral to logicise that hurting someones idiotic sentiments and sensibilities might have led on to this atrocity - if anything, we need to flood the easily offended religious fanatics with satires and free speech to desensitize them rather than succumbing to the threat and censoring any offensive material. Without the freedom to offend, it ceases to exist.” - Salman Rushdie. If anything, the collective civilization needs to rise up for the right to offend ! Nd yeah, it is time again to address the root cause of all evil - religion !! An ancient conspiracy meant to spread fear with the help of god and other demons, which arguably served some organisational purpose in the medieval times, but is absolutely irrelevant in the current era of knowledge and truth. Yes, it is the unpleasant fact and we do not have to be an Islamophobe to admit that the most violent and abominable crimes in the name of god and religion, sadly have arisen from Islamic faith. But it is equally tragic ( and inevitable ) that Islamic fundamentalism will give rise to an equally obnoxious far right religious uprising throughout the world - let it be the Hindu cultural fascism on the rise in my beloved secular India or the far right-wing orthodox hate mongers in Europe and America. Yet it is the tragedy of the times that the most sensible and intelligent alternative - the liberal humanists, who care a tuppence about god and other jokers or religion and other moronic rituals, are still not a mass phenomenon, but strictly restricted to the class. It is limiting in itself (offense intended) that a certain level of intelligence is a pre-requisite to enter the group and despite all its popular believes, human race is still not imparted with a generous dose of intellect. All we need is a civilization who can laugh at themselves, their inadequacies, their ignorance and more importantly their centuries old delusions - the so-called holier than thou gods and religions - and a better tomorrow beckons.
