Of late, there`s a seeming resurgence in the expression of Eentwyseenewatsowin - Indigenous or Indigenousness by the First Peoples of Ministik -this island now called North America......the return of indigeneity was a prophecy by the ancients. However, I hope and pray this uncharted but ceremonial journey by our youth is guided by the sacred nuances of a first language.....even if their journey to becoming Indigenous entails and requires an intimate relearning of their mother tongue.......... Wakootoomakan - there`s a strong and direct relationship between the Cree language and Ministik..... our Elders have respectfully and gently reminded us of the core and principle teaching; Nehiyawaywin Maskowciywin....Askiy Pimatisowin Cree Language is Power and Land is Life....For this very simple reason and with all due respect to all, I would question whether the path to becoming Indigenous can ever be successfully realized through the English Language where Askiy (Land) is looked upon and valued only as Real Estate. In the Cree Language, there`s no quantitative nor qualitative equivalent interpretation/translation for the words Real Estate. English is a language from another people, from another land far away, a way of thinking based on vastly different values and beliefs....I`m going to have to stop here...for now...maybe expand on it later on.....but, please,...... I humbly ask those who read this personal rant is NOT to discourage any Cree Peoples exploration and search for Indigenousness but if anything perhaps to respectfully encourage them to take the journey through Nehiyawaywin......ekosi pitama Niwakomakantik...........
