Of primary interest during the Paris City Council meeting Monday - TopicsExpress

Of primary interest during the Paris City Council meeting Monday night will be the councils two appointments to the Paris Economic Development Corp. Last year at this time, the 5-member PEDC was down to three members -- Bruce Carr, whose term was to expire on June 30, 2014; Toni Clem, whose term was to expire on June 30, 2015; and Rebecca Clifford, whose term expires on June 30, 2015. David Turner was appointed last year to a 3-year term ending on June 30, 2016; and Vicki Ballard was appointed to the one year remaining on the term of Kenny Dority, who had to resign when he moved out of the city limits. Then Clem resigned halfway through her term in protest of the new boards direction, and the council appointed Stephen Grubb, chief executive officer of Paris Regional Medical Center, to serve out the reminder of her term (expires June 30, 2015). Then in February, Carr resigned for personal reasons, four months before his term was up. So the council needs to appoint two people to full 3-year terms -- the seat Carr gave up and the seat that Ballard served for the past year. She has said she does not want to continue on the board. Last year, there were 16 applicants for the two vacancies. Interested in the job last year were Ballard, Turner, Roy Beard, Josh Bray, John Brockman, David Collier, Kelsey Gibbs, David Hamilton, Kenneth Kohls, John Lee, Lydia Lindsey, William Neely, Joanna Parsons, Edwin Pickle, Kenneth Rogers, and Skipper Steely. Perhaps as the result of a still-ongoing investigation into the PEDCs practices, there are fewer applicants this year - these 7, from which the council will pick two: * David R. Ballard; * John E. Brockman; * Donald Kararck; * Randall Lindsey; * James Price; * Carla Wallace; and * Donald G. Wilson.
