Of the recorded prayers in the Bible, #49 is in 1 Kings 17:20-21. Elijah prayed, “O LORD my God, have You also brought tragedy on the widow with whom I lodge, by killing her son?” Then, he said, “O LORD my God, I pray, let this child’s soul come back to him” (1 Kings 17:20-21). Is Elijah saying God killed the widow’s son? No. Notice, he is asking a question, not making a statement. The reason He asked the question was the widow was blaming her sin for her son’s death (1 Kings 17:18). Her sin did not cause it, but God’s sovereignty did allow it. God also raised the son (1 Kings 17:22). In the final analysis, God is “able to save and to destroy” (Jas. 4:12). As we pray, we need to remember that God is God! That is a good thing. Because He is all powerful, He can answer prayer and because He is gracious, He does answer prayer. May you have a good day. Pastor Mike
