Ofcom considers quadrupling mobile operator license fees to claw back some 4G cash Considering that the UK’s original 4G auction raised £1.5 billion less than originally intended, it’s no surprise to see the Government going back for seconds. Currently, the big four of EE, Vodafone , O2 and Three UK pay £64.5 million a year in licensing fees, but Ofcom is weighing-up plans that’ll quadruple those fees. Citing concerns that spectrum is undervalued, the department wants to increase Vodafone and O2′s annual rent to £83.1 million, Three UK to £37.5 million and EE to a whopping £101.7 million. Of course, while it’d be nice to see taxpayers’ getting a little something back, we do wonder how long it’ll be before users’ phone bills increase to foot the extra cost.
